What this symptom usually means

Dishwasher leaks are urgent for the same reason washer leaks are: water damage compounds fast, especially in condos and upstairs units. Fortunately the source of a dishwasher leak is usually easy to find once the kickplate is off. Below is a breakdown of the most common causes we find on this exact problem, roughly in order of frequency.

Common causes, in order of likelihood

Failed door gasket

Water escaping from the front usually means the door seal has compressed or cracked.

Crack in the tub

Older plastic tubs develop stress cracks, typically in the lower corners — visible once the machine is opened up.

Loose or damaged water inlet hose

The hose that brings water in from under the sink can leak at the fitting or from a pinhole.

Sump or pump housing leak

The sump at the bottom of the tub can crack or the gasket can fail — water appears under the unit but not inside.

Bosch E15 error

Bosch and some related models detect water in the base pan and throw an E15 error. It's a safety feature — but it means water is already where it shouldn't be.
